Overview and Responsibilities
The National Skills Commission (NSC) which is working to develop intelligence on Australia’s labour market, workforce changes and current and emerging skills needs. The Forecasting, Skills and Analysis Branch uses skills forecasting and analysis to provide data and intelligence about the labour market and current and future skills needs. Most of the branch’s output is new and/or experimental analysis and the branch is well staffed in its data analytics capabilities
A Business Analyst position is available within Strategy team to assist in working with the Branch and wider NSC to assist in defining outcomes, improving documentation, and implementing new processes. Earlier this year, the NSC’s data management maturity was assessed using the Enterprise Data Management Council’s Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM). The suite of recommendations as a result of this assessment included implementing improved project management and data governance.
The position will need to work closely with others in team including the Project Manager who will be creating and implementing a project management framework tailored to the NSC, and the Data Engineer who will be assisting in delivery of the NSC’s Data Lake and associated technology stack. The position will also work with the data science teams of the branch and wider NSC to understand their requirements, work activities and processes.
The duties of the position include:
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate and build relationships at all levels
•Ability to document business requirements for data driven projects
•End to end business analysis skills: process mapping, process re-engineering, user stories, workshop facilitation and improvement techniques
•Assist in developing and documenting high level and detailed requirements
•Completing project management documentation
•Liaise between business areas and technical teams (Data and ICT)
•Facilitate backlog refinement, review, management of user acceptance criteria, retrospective and planning sessions as required
•Data entry and data cleansing
