Overview and Responsibilities
The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is a seeking quotation to review historical Australian soil data. The project will assess historical soil data to determine what data is available, its quality and usefulness in supporting government initiatives and other stakeholder needs. The assessment of publicly available data will determine spatial coverage, quality and usefulness to stakeholders. The project will require input from soil technical and other experts to design a process to assess public and private datasets. The project design will identify user needs, assessment criteria and standards and processes. The project will engage with the owners or custodians of soil datasets across Australia, to further identify data sources, test the proposed assessment design and method and identify potential barriers. The assessment design may need to be modified based on feedback from this engagement process. Assessment of private data may be modified subject to the access of the private data. The willingness private data owners to be paid to share their data in the public domain will also need to be explored. The preferred supplier(s) may be asked to present to the Department on their proposal for discussion and negotiation prior to finalising the resultant contract.
