Overview

The Protected Mobility Integration and Capability Assurance Program (PMICA) program has been established to support the deployment of a Ready Battlegroup (RBG) including the prototyping and engineering required to integrate and assure interoperability with multiple subsystems

The PMICA program is seeking one (1) Electronics or Communications Engineer with significant demonstrated Radio Frequency (RF) engineering experience to support the RF integration efforts within PMICA. This individual will directly contribute to the successful delivery of integrated RF solutions for Army.

Responsibilities

As part of the RF team, the successful candidate will provide the necessary analysis, reports, tools and processes to allow effective management and control of the Contested Communications environment for the current and future Army. Broadly, this will be achieved through:

a. Electronic / RF characterisation of integrated systems (systems of systems), systems and subsystems, including radios, integrated platforms, antennas, etc, including the development of procedures and tools necessary to achieve this;

b. Establishment of the Contested Communications Framework, as part of the Capability Configuration Management Framework (CCMF), including supporting processes and documents;

c. Conduct end-to-end analysis, measurement and simulation of contested communications scenarios, in virtual, bench and open air environments; and,

d. Supporting various meetings, working groups, and other fora, to share information, lessons learnt, etc

During the course of the contract and for the allocated activities, the RF Engineer will:

a. Conduct RF design and prototype activities in accordance with defined requirements for assigned platform variants;

b. Develop and document the design descriptions and design records, using an agreed template, to record the modifications, risks and opportunities of the complete suite of proposed modifications;

c. Peer review RF designs in support of other engineering efforts;

d. Coordinate advice from, and engage and consult with, various System Program Office (SPO), ensuring requests for information (RFI’s) are managed and addressed in timeframes that support the PMICA project schedule;

e. Provide technical advice to members of the PMICA engineering team to update the design register and safety case reports;

f. Conduct installation activities as required and review prototype design artefacts and update vehicle build state documents.

g. Provide necessary RF input to achieve Technical Certification, including development of the Technical Certification documentary pack to support Test and Evaluation activities, in accordance with the PMICA Technical Certification Plan (TCP), System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and Test & Evaluation Management Plan (TEMP);

h. Coordinate, plan, support and, if required, manage necessary Test and Evaluation / Verification and Validation of the designs to demonstrate compliance to the PMICA System / Subsystem Specification (SSS).

i. Provide systems engineering support as required to achieve agreed outcomes.

Essential Criteria

Bachelor of Engineering in the field of Electronic, Telecommunications and/or Communications Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.

At least five years (recent) experience in RF engineering and/or RF systems engineering, including the knowledge and use of spectrum analysers and other test equipment

Post graduate qualifications in a relevant technical field are highly desirable

Demonstrated experience in EMC / EMI compliance and / or the application of AS/NZS 15288:2015 to engineering development activities is desirable

Demonstrated experience in analysis and automation tools such as LabVIEW, MatLab or CST is desirable.

Desired Criteria

  • At least 4 years working within a Defence Systems Program Office (SPO) is desirable.
